“Thistlestone Farm is a wonderful location to practice plein air, (painting on location). This working farm offers lots of inspiring subjects including sheep, one regal Llama, birds, turtles, three ponds, hiking trails, open pastures, woodlands, barns, outbuildings as well as old and new farm machinery. Chairs and benches have been placed in especially scenic locations around the ponds. Even if your visit includes rainy days the enclosed porch and living room of The Farmhouse offer wonderful views. There’s lots of original art, antiques and quirky objects to inspire artwork too. In the Shepherds Cottage the classroom has tables and lots of windows with a library to give you a comfortable and dry place to make art too. The congenial host has pandemic protocols in place to protect your health, which I greatly appreciate. He’s an enthusiastic farmer, educator and artist which contributes to making this a special place to practice your own art. I think it would work well for small groups or couples. It’s an inspiring place to paint.” Jan: April 2022
