Wood Henge

A Henge……by any other name.

On May 21st 2022 a Derecho swept through parts of Ontario. We were on its path that day. We lost recreation areas around the ponds along with dozens of old willows and even some old hardwoods. We also had a shed damaged with subsequent removal by old order Mennonites. Our tractors now had to be housed in the shop with other equipment. An 80 year old 80 foot high, 5.5 foot wide Poplar tree threatened this building. It was decided to have it removed. It became at the spur of the moment (when it was discovered our large tractor could tip 7000 ibs, which the base weighted)……it became Wood Henge!

Wood Henge is alive! Coppicing (new shoots emerging from the trunk) continues and even the severed parts are showing ‘pollarding’ (shoots at the top). It’s Alive!
